Plastic Free July 2015

Register for Plastic Free July

This year Australians will send 1 million tonnes of plastic waste to landfill and many more million tonnes of plastic waste will end up in the world’s oceans. Recycling is not enough to solve the plastic pollution problem. We need to refuse, reduce and reuse.

The Plastic Free July challenge is quite simple: attempt to refuse single-use plastic during July. ‘Single-use plastic’ includes shopping bags, takeaway cups, straws and packaging – any plastic that’s intended to be used only once and then discarded. Keep a ‘dilemma bag’ of unavoidable single-use plastic to discuss at the end of the challenge.

Choose to participate for a day, a week, a month or longer. Every effort makes a difference. Visit to register and check out the toolbox of ideas, recipes and tips to make it easier.
